My dog is in the dog pound. How much does it cost to get him back?

by admin on June 11, 2010

I opened the gait yesterday while I was home and he split within about 3 minutes. I always water him and feed him in the morning, and he hangs out in the yard and eats then we usually head for a walk on a leash and on Saturdays he gets a bath. Not yesterday. He disappeared and I searched everywhere for him. I called the neighbors and notified everyone I was hunting for my dog. I even called the local grocer to let them know he disappeared. I took my truck to his favorite swimming holes and he was just gone.
Finally last nite, I called the police and they said he was turned in at about 4 pm. He is in the pound. What do I have to do to get him back? He is tagged.. No one called
We live in very rural america amongst the corn which is being harvested and the county pound is closed. It doesnt open until tommorrow at 0800. I just dont know what all I have to pay or prove to get him home

well, while waisting your time at the computer you could have gone to the dog pound and rescued your dog from there. Why did you not even call there? It may not cost you anything…

Call the pound and ask them the police may even know.

You have to prove the dog has his rabies shot and the cost will vary depending on how long they’ve had the dog. In my area it is $35-$60 to get back a dog but your area might be different.

GOOD LUCK!!

They may not be open on Sunday, or only have limited hours. Call them and find out.

You WILL have to pay a fine – But that varies by County / State, so there is no way to find out besides calling them.

Pick a price, it can be different in every city.

VARIES COUNTY BY COUNTY, CALL YOUR LOCAL DOG POUND AND FIND OUT IS THE ONLY WAY, SHOULDN’T BE THAT MUCH.

Go to the pound in question. Tell them you want your dog. There might be a fee of $30 or more. Each time he lands in the pound, the price will be higher.
Microchip him. It’s better than tags by itself.
The pound might have microchips available for as little as $10. Ask them.

Call the pound and explain your story. Our pound charges $30. Yours may charge differently.

Sometimes they’ll give you you’re dog back for free depending on the shelter. Otherwise, you’re looking at an adoption fee of $35-$75.

Do ya think you should be calling the pound to find out insted of asking us? We don;t have your dog.

If this was your child, you wouldn’t be wasting time on this board…

Don’t wait too long… some pounds will euthanize animals if not claimed or adopted.

You should have been notified by the pound, or at least whoever turned him in, that your dog was found. I agree with the microchipping as well; most shelters/pounds have scanners. But if you weren’t called and the tags were still on the dog when he was found, chances are the same would happen if he was chipped.

Then again, maybe the collar is missing, so the tags would be gone as well.

Go get your dog before it’s too late………….
