My hamster named Hamsterdam escaped from his cage today. What kind of foods or ways can I lure him out of hiding to get him back in the cage? He does like the smell of pot smoke.

you should follow the poop trail… lolzzzz
Found this on a website. Hope it helps! We have one too and I’d hate to see him escape.
If you are ever unfortunate enough to have your hamster escape the most effective means of retrieval is to build a humane trap as follows:
Close all doors so that the hamster cannot wander far.
Place a deep bucket in the room where the hamster is believed to be and use some books to build some steps up to the top of the bucket that the hamster can climb.
Place some toilet or tissue paper in the bucket to provide a soft landing.
Place some food (preferably something like apple which the hamster will be able to smell) in the bottom of the bucket.
Leave overnight.
Get a box with high sides. Put his favorite food in it (NOT marijuana!) Make a ramp going from the floor to the side of the box for him to climb. He’ll smell the food, climb the ramp and fall into the box…..and won’t be able to get out until you find him. I guarantee, he will be back in less than 24 hours.
(Remember that they are nocturnal, so he will more than likely search for food at night while you are asleep)
During the day escaped hamsters usually rest in a hiding spot. Unless you chance upon it, they can hide virtually anywhere they can get to. They don’t move, so finding them is almost impossible.
Wait until night and the curious little things become more active and usually waddle across the floors towards the sounds of human activity. In short wait for their curiosity to bring them out to investigate you then quickly grab them.
They usually approach cautiously from the edge where the wall meets the floor. Listen for their feet on the floor.
The feint scratchy pitter-pat of tiny toenails on floor tile.
They tend to pause at the edge of brighter light sources.
They are not nearly as fast or as sneaky as mice or rats.
ive done this many times…since hamsters are nocturnal do this at night. get a bucket not to big just big enough that your hamster wont get out. set up a ramp to the ridge of the bucket with apples or carrots of w.e leading up the ramp into the bucket put some in the bucket as well. put a lot of cushioning at the bottom of the bucket so when the hamster goes in for the food he wont get hurt. hope this helps
OMG MY HAMSTER (ITS DEAD =[ ) GOT IN A HOLE BUT WAT I THINK U SHOULD DO IS GET A BOX AND PUT LIKE CARROTS AND WAIT TILL HE COMES OUT
i read bout that in the book.if u kno wat room hes in, put a small dish of food in the middle of the room n he’ll find it.just keep an eye out.good luck!
Put its’ cage or tank on floor, it will get hungry enough to clime back in., make it a ladder to do so with.
Put a piece of cut up apple in the middle of the living room and sit on the couch and watch tv untill you see your hamster run out and get it then catch the hamster.
first put all other pets, dogs cats, in a room your are positive he is not in, put electrical cords out of reach and put those plastic covers on outlets so he does not get shocked, beware hamsters can climb so tape down aquarium lids and put and water things he could drown in out of reach, put all chemicals and cleaners out of reach, put all food out of reach so he doesnt get into that. and make sure there is no way he can get out of the house, now with every room closed off get a plastic bucket with smooth sides, so he couldnt climb out, and place one in every room, than take wood or books and make stairs or a ramp with good traction and small grade, rub a carrot on all of the stairs and a little around the bucket than put the carrot in the bottom of the bucket, put a good 3 in. of bedding on the bottom of the bowl so he has a cushy fall and something to burrow in and sleep because he is probably tired after his adventure, put some dry food in his bowl in the bucket so he has something to eat and attach his water bottle so he can drink something as he is probably dehydrated, check them every few hours and warn everyone in the house so they watch where they walk and open and close door carefully(wouldnt want to hit the little guy) this is a very effective way to catch your little friend
p.s. make sure that the buckets have never had any chemicals in them or your hamster will be severly harmed by them and may not go in them
good luck, hope you get him,
Place your hamsters cage with Fresh food in the middle of your floor { try on your main floor }
and open the cages door . it will smell the scent and find his/her way back home!
